02. Common Features of Zclassic Wallets

Since there is a low count of wallets that actually support Zclassic coins, it is a tough task to list the common features they possess. The coin itself is a privacy coin and it focuses on not disclosing information during transactions and keeping your balance a secret. A few of the wallets are also open-source, which allows users to see how the software works. On the other hand, the official Zclassic wallets offer great security.

Security and Privacy

As I mentioned earlier, the Zclassic project’s sole purpose is to provide privacy and anonymity to its users. The ability to be incognito and for no one to see your information is very appealing to the community. Below, you will find two security and privacy features that are shared among the most notable, and in my opinion the best, wallets where you can store your Zclassic coins.

Disclose Information

The HD feature means that the wallet has a master seed phrase that you need to make sure not to forget or loose. You can create pairs of keys for every transaction and if something happens to the wallet you just need to restore the master seed. Wallets that are HD are ZCL Electrum, ZelCore, Ledger and Trezor.

Open Source

For a wallet to be open-source, means that its code is available to the wide public. This helps to solidify the authenticity of the wallet and its code as everyone can see it. Ledger Nano S and ZCL Electrum are such wallets.

Transaction Fee Management

One of the things that you would like to know when dealing with cryptocurrencies is the transaction fees that you have to pay for every action in the network. With Zclassic, half of the wallets give you the option to chose your transaction fees.

With the ZClassic Full Node wallet, when you are setting up a transaction, the wallet will show you a recommended fee, but it is not a mandatory one. You will be able to adjust it to any value you decide. Similarly, with the ZCL Electrum wallet, the interface gives you a scale with a minimum and maximum transaction fee, resembling something like a recommended scale. With any other wallet, including most exchange ones, you will not be to affect the fees in any way and they will be automatically calculated and charged from your balance.

Fee Control How Does It Work? Supported By
Full Control These types of wallets allow you to manually adjust your transaction fees. ZClassic Full Node, ZCL Electrum, Ledger Nano S
Partial Control These wallets allow you to adjust your transaction fees based on their “recommended” fees. Coinomi
No Control These wallets usually determine the transaction fees based on how busy the network is or straight up offer only a fixed fee. ZelCore

Of course, in February 2018, due to a disagreement in the community, a fork happened and Bitcoin Private emerged. Also, in an effort to make an improved coin, a mix of ZClassic and Bitcoin was created. After a split in the chain, ANON coin was born.

04.About Zclassic

ZClassic is the product of a hard fork of the ZCash network. While similar, they are very different entities. The ZClassic project does not take a cut of 20% of the rewards for the development team and really strives for equality in their distribution. The core idea is the same, create a secure private coin, without the shortcomings of its predecessors. ZClassic’s and Bitcoin’s blockchains later became the basis of a chain split that created the Bitcoin Private cryptocurrency.

The founder of the ZCL network is actually one of the lead developers of ZCash – Rhett Creightnon. He was in a disagreement with his colleague Wikcox regarding the 20% reward for developers in the ZCash network. He thought that this was really unfair towards the community. As a result, on 6th November 2016, mining of the new ZClassic cryptocurrency began. It included all the major features of the ZCash project, but without its disadvantages and without the mandatory payment for the team. After seeing the project, Wikcox left a positive feedback regarding the new cryptocurrency even though he thought that without the reward for the development team, there is no guarantee for future support of the network. He thought that ZClassic would become the best alternative to ZCash in case the latter network was shut down for some reason. ZClassic uses the Equihash hashing algorithm with a Proof of Work consensus mechanism.
