Hopefully, now you have an overall idea of which brands and wallet types will work best for you when you decide where to store your Dash coins. From my experience, I know that before you do make a decision, you need to overview all possible outcomes. To do that you need to ask yourself a few questions. Consider how frequently you are planning to use the wallet, maybe the mobile version will be the best fit for daily usage. Decide how often you will withdraw funds out of your account, some wallets have higher thresholds and that could be an issue if you want to do it regularly. And at last, think over the size of your investment, if you have in mind to stash large amounts of digital assets, choose a wallet with proper security or just purchase a hardware wallet.

02. Common Features of Dash Wallets

I want to draw your attention to the most common features of the Dash Wallets and explain a bit more about each one of them. As many other cryptocurrencies, Dash places the accent over the privacy factor. The PrivateSend and InstaSend will give you the opportunity to send coins instantly and absolutely privately. The validation of each transaction on the network is handled by the Dash Masternodes, they mix the user`s unspent coins before executing a transaction, making them untraceable. Another common feature for all wallets in general, is the HD (Hierarchical Deterministic) wallet, providing a code of words called “seed” used to recover the account in case of hostile security breaches.

Security and Privacy

While speaking of security and privacy I realize that this is a delicate subject because of the digital origin of those currencies. Most people are concerned about the safety of their funds. Realistically, there is always a chance to breach your computer`s or phone`s security and get access to your personal data. From all possible features, I want to start with 2FA, standing for Two-Factor-Authenticator. This is usually a mobile application which is playing the role of an extra security layer over your account. Every time you log in, you need to fill a 6-12 digits number which is displayed on your phone, the trick is that the code is changing every 30 seconds. Another useful tool is the “Passphrase”, each time you perform a transaction the system will require a passphrase to double confirm that you are the owner of the wallet.

Hierarchical Deterministic (HD)

The HD feature means that the wallet has a master seed phrase that you need to make sure not to forget or loose. You can create pairs of keys for every transaction and if something happens to the wallet you just need to restore the master seed. Wallets that are HD are Dash Core, Exodus and Jaxx Liberty.

InstantSend

InstantSend allows you to instantly send a transaction. Meaning that the user that receives the coins can immediately spend them without needing to wait several block confirmations.

Secure Dash Wallets To Consider

Dash Wallet for Masternodes

All final decisions and the governance, in general, are managed by the decentralized autonomous organization of Masternodes. They perform different functions while keeping a full copy of the blockchain on their hard-drive and assist miners in their daily activities by validating the transactions. Additionally, they appear as shareholders, owning the right to vote on improvement proposals or changes in the Dash ecosystem. To be a Masternode is required to possess 1000 DASH and to set up a machine strong enough to meet the minimum CPU, RAM and HDD requirements. Also, you will need a proper internet provider and a static IP address to run the Masternode smoothly. The rewards of each newly found block are distributed between miners, Masternodes and development, while 10% only is for development and the rest 90% is split between the others. I almost forgot, you must have in mind that you can run Masternode only with the official Dash Core wallet, all other could be used but not for that specific purpose.

Transaction Fee Management

The truth is that nobody likes to pay fees that’s why it best to seek for the lowest ones if possible. Have in mind that using PrivateSend is more expensive, roughly 0.0001 DASH, while the normal fee is 0.00001 DASH. After the recent change to the consensus, transactions are automatically sent with InstantSend, as it’s now the default input for the network. The catch however, is that you can only use it for up to 4 transactions per block. If you want to include more, there’s a fee.

Some wallets like Dash Core are with recommended fees but can also be adjusted manually. Jaxx wallet offers the same but without the option to amend or adjust them, you can only choose between the options in front of you. Also, with most web wallets, the fees are predetermined and again you cannot change anything manually.

Fee Control How Does It Work? Supported By
Full Control The wallet shows the recommended fees and you can adjust them manually Dash Core
Partial Control These wallets allow you to adjust your transaction fees based on their “recommended” fees. Jaxx
No Control These wallets usually determine the transaction fees based on how busy the network is or straight up offer only a fixed fee.

03.FAQ

  • Can I make Private transactions with any wallet?

No, only a few selected wallets like Dash Core and Dash Electrum have this feature available.

  • Can I make an instant transaction with any wallet?

04.About Dash

Dash appears to be one of the many cryptocurrencies forked out of Bitcoin protocol. It was launched in January 2014 with the name “XCoin” by Evan Duffield. At its early stage, it was quite often subject to pump and dump attacks. Later on, it was rebranded as Darkcoin, that was not a great move because the media interpret that as proof that the coin is used mainly in the dark web. On March 2015 the name changed to DASH, standing for “Digital Cash”. A year later, in 2016, Dash was no longer associated with dark markets.

Dash is an open source altcoin presented as a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO), coordinated and maintained by a subnetwork of users called “Masternodes” and “Miners”. Masternodes receive 45% of each block reward, while the other 45% is dedicated to the miner and the rest 10% for DAO investments. The coin went through many stages and struggles but after Mr. Duffield and his team were involved in the business incubator at the Arizona state university, they successfully showed all crypto supporters that DASH is not a scam but exactly the opposite, it is a great investing opportunity.
