As you can see, there are more than a few choices of wallets for Waves and offer a lot of different features and functionality that I am sure will fit the tastes of most users. Here is a tip from me when deciding on which wallet to choose. Think about how often you will be using the wallet and in what way. If you are an active person that is constantly on the move, then maybe a mobile wallet will be a great choice.
02. Common Features of Waves Wallets
With such a wide plethora of wallets to choose from, there are some features that they share between themselves. For example, all official wallets have a built-in exchange, where you can directly trade your WAVE coins for other crypto assets like Bitcoin, Ethereum and others. Fiat money support is also present with the exchange platforms, giving you even more flexibility if you are an avid trader. Other wallets that are not the official ones, like Ledger Nano S and Guarda, provide other features like being Hierarchical Deterministic and access to the source code, a.k.a being Open-Source. Both of these features provide a high level of security and privacy and perfect for people that are valuing safety above all.
Security and Privacy
Due to the nature of cryptocurrencies being a digital asset, they are always prone to malicious activities and hacking. Maybe the most sought-after features for any wallet are related to its security and privacy. If you are one of those users and want to hold WAVES with one of the supporting wallets, you will not be disappointed. Below you can find these features explained along with examples.
Hierarchical Deterministic (HD)
HD wallets have the function of generating a twelve-word master seed key, from which you can generate unlimited pairs of private and public keys. Some official wallets and Guarda are Hierarchical Deterministic.
Open Source
This means that the core code of the wallet is widely available to the public for validation and download. Open-source are all official wallets and Ledger Nano S.
Secure Waves Wallets To Consider
Wallets for Waves Staking
The Waves network uses the Proof of Stake consensus mechanism thus you can actually stake your WAVE currency with the official wallets. The first method for staking is setting up your own staking node, which is the more difficult option, as you will need at least 1000 WAVES and go through the setup process yourself. Alternatively, Waves supports Leased Proof of Stake (LPoS) consensus as well, which lets you lease your WAVE coins to a staking node host without losing control over your currency. The node will not have any authority over your funds and will not be able to move or spend them. Additionally, you will be able to withdraw them at any time you want without any repercussions.
Transaction Fee Management
It is always a good idea to know what fees you will need to pay for every activity on the Waves network, especially if you are an avid trader. Regarding transaction fee management, there is no such thing with WAVE, as the fees are fixed. For a standard transaction, the fee is 0.001 WAVES and when you are using the exchange it costs 0.003 WAVES. When you are leasing out or taking back your coins from a staking node, it costs the same as a standard transaction.
03.FAQ
-
Can I store Ethereum Tokens in my Waves wallet?
Unfortunately, you cannot. Both projects have different blockchains, meaning that if even by mistake you send tokens to the wrong wallet, they might be lost forever.
-
Can I store my Waves tokens on any wallet that supports them?
I advise you to be careful and not to use just any wallet you come by. That is why I made this article, in order to prevent people from losing their currency. I would recommend using the official wallets that are endorsed by the development team.
04.About Waves
Waves is a Russian project, launched by an entrepreneur called Alexander Ivanov in 2016. The ICO for the project raised roughly 16 million USD, becoming one of the most funded projects in crowdfunding history. Later in June 2017, the platform announced that it will support a dollar payment gateway, making it possible for people to use fiat money while trading.
The Waves platform allows users to issue tokens with ease and raise funds for their own ICOs. In other words, they can take part in a crypto crowdfunding/kick starter program. They can interact with the project through the Chrome application or with the full program that they can install on their PC.
The official Waves wallets have full access to the built-in decentralized exchange platform (DEX), which is supported to the so-called matcher nodes that connect seller and buyer on the blockchain. The project is also one of the few blockchain networks that have adopted the LPoS consensus, allowing users to lease their funds to staking node owners without any risk of losing them.
