Simple Guide to the Best Golem Wallets in 2024
Golem is one of the most popular cryptocurrencies out there and a lot of people want to get their hands on it. If you would ever want to own Golems (GNT), you will need a wallet. Since GNT is a token and not coin, it doesn’t have its own blockchain. It uses the Ethereum blockchain to operate. Thus, there is no official wallet, but Golem being an ERC-20 token, it means that there is a plethora of wallets supporting that token protocol available. While the wallets that I am going to show you are not considered official, I can personally recommend them as well as countless other users.

As you can probably see, there really is a good number of GNT wallets you can pick from, all with different features. Since Golem is an ERC-20 token operating on the Ethereum blockchain, almost every wallet that can support these types of tokens, can support GNT. Be careful as I said almost every, there are wallets that don’t support GNT, even though they support other tokens. Make sure to watch out.
02. Common Features of Golem Wallets
There is a wide variety of features that some GNT wallets share with each other. For example, all of them have multi-coin support, allowing you to keep more than one type of token or coin with the same private key or seed. Almost all of the examples in the previous table also offer great security and full control over your private key. One of the features that is shared among a part of them is the Hierarchical Deterministic feature, which allows the wallet to have a randomly generated 12-word passphrase. Interestingly, there are wallets that support more than one token protocol, for example Infinito supports not only ERC-20 tokens, but also NEP-5 tokens, which are native to the NEO blockchain. The options are many and are amazing, so there is always something for everyone.
Security and Privacy
Security and privacy features are maybe some of the most important for a lot of users. This is due to the fact that your funds are actually cryptocurrency, which is stored somewhere in the network. The stronger the layers of security, the better. Some of these features are them being Hierarchical Deterministic, open-source or have two-factor authentication. You can find explanations to them below along with which wallets have them.
Hierarchical Deterministic (HD)
An HD wallet has the ability to randomly generate 12 words that are used as a passphrase, called master seed key. From it, private and public keys can be generated that can trace themselves back to the seed. In the future, it will be a must for every wallet. An example of which ones already have it are Exodus and Jaxx Liberty.
Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)
This is an additional layer of security that will not hinder your ease of access to your funds. Ledger Nano S and Ledger Blue have this feature.
Open Source
An open-source software has its code open to the public where anyone can see and validate its authenticity. The Garuda wallet and Ledger’s Nano S model have this feature.
Secure Golem Wallets to Consider
Transaction Fee Management
Since Golem operates on the Ethereum blockchain, the way transaction fees are paid is a bit different from coins. In order to pay for token or contract transactions, you will need to have Ether in your wallet, which is the Ethereum blockchain native coin. The network uses GAS to cover the fees of transactions and other activities, which is bought or switched from Ether. If you try to send Golems to someone and the wallet says, “Not enough funds”, it means that you don’t have enough Ether to pay for your transaction. Different wallets offer their own type of fee management system. I have made the table below to show you which ones offer full control of the fees and which one do not.
Fee Control | How Does It Work? | Supported By |
---|---|---|
Full Control With Suggested Fees | The wallet shows the recommended fees and you can adjust them manually | Mist, Ledger |
Suggested fees without option for manual control. | You have 2 or 3 options of fees and you can only choose between them | Jaxx |
No Control | The fees are predetermined, and you can’t change anything manually | Most of the Exchanges have no fee control. (e.g. Binance, Bittrex) |
03.FAQ
-
What is the token ERC-20 standard?
ERC-20 is a standard for the token’s interface. In order for a token to fully comply with specifications and rules, this standard was created.
-
How much Ether do you need to send tokens?
You can send 0.02 ETH to the address that you will be using for the transfer. If you try to send tokens without ETH present in your wallet, the wallet will advise you that there are not enough funds. Ethereum is used to pay the transaction fees.
04.About Golem
The whole idea of the Golem project was to create a decentralized supercomputer with the help of the blockchain technology. The total computational power of the network is a sum of the power of all users in the network. Following the same trend that led to the creation and success of Uber, in the Golem network, you can rent out your unused computer resources in the platform for other people to use and vice-versa. You can rent computational power from others in the network for complex calculations, simulations or even Artificial Intelligence research for example. This creates the possibility to make some extra money.
Led by Julian Zawistowski, who is also advisor to the Hoard blockchain platform for the video game industry, Golem steamed ahead at full speed. First, the team released the alpha version called Brass in August 2016. It included two powerful tools for CGI rendering called Blender and LuxRender. Later updates like Stone and Iron brought increased security, stability, ability to develop applications, a Certification Mechanism and Transaction Framework. The long-term vision of the development team for the Golem network is to build a decentralized platform of microservices.
